Emerging Filmmakers Workshops at the UKJFF: THE POETRY OF EVERYDAY LIFE
A Documentary Masterclass with Marc Isaacs and Yael Perlov (4.15pm)
“The documentary cinema interests me only if I can turn it into something more poetic” David Perlov
We live in a time where the majority of documentary films try to tackle big social issues in a very didactic and overly journalistic manner favouring “the issue” above all else. In this masterclass, Marc Isaacs and Yael Perlov discuss an alternative way of looking at reality. Using examples from their own work and those of other filmmakers that have inspired them, they will show how the documentary film can be so much more than a simple call to arms. What makes a good subject for a film?; How do you find and work with the people in your film?; What does it mean to have a voice as a filmmaker?; How do you turn reality into something more poetic?
