Showcase and Speed Pitching Event

A special event showcasing the groundbreaking work of the Pears Short Film Fund at UK Jewish Film in building a repertory of new UK films on Jewish themes, and supporting and promoting exploration of Jewish themes in the UK film industry as a whole.

The event will also mark the official launch of the Pears Short Film Fund at UK Jewish Film 2012 and provide filmmakers with an opportunity to ‘speed pitch’ and receive feedback on their ideas to a film industry panel. The panel at this event will include:

Nik Powell, film producer and Director of NFTS

Joe Bateman, Director of Rushes Soho Shorts

Asher Tlalim, NFTS tutor and Director of the Pears Short Film Fund at UK Jewish Film

Judy Ironside, Founder and Executive Director, UK Jewish Film

The event will open with the screening of three important films that the fund has helped create since its inception five years ago: Veils (dir. Dan Susman); Schlimazeltov (dir. Christopher Thomas Allen); and Sidney Turtelbaum (dir. Tristram Shapeero).

This will be followed by a film industry panel exploring the role of short films within the film industry and looking at how they can be used to maximum effect to either jump-start or enhance a film career for the long term. There will also be an opportunity for audience Q&A.

After a drinks reception, the second half of the event is a ‘Speed Pitching’ session. Each prospective applicant will be invited in front of film industry professionals to present a pitch of their project for a maximum of three minutes. Once all the ‘speed pitching’ sessions are complete, applicants will be invited back for feedback on their pitch.
